Male Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Linking to Wild Bird Wednesday
Today's Tip:
If your shooting style involves a lot of walking and moving around, a monopod may be a better choice than a tripod for supporting your long lenses. A monopod is easier to carry and more maneuverable and will provide tripod-like stability when used properly. A ball head is a good choice for use on monopods. Just be sure to get one rated to hold the weight of your heaviest camera/lens combo.

Great shot and good suggestion.
Beautiful shot and that is a great idea. I can't hold still for nothing and the longer I have to aim and focus, the shakier I get!
I LOVE it!
What a great shot and thanks for the tip!
great shot! love the dark background.
Beautiful! I'd like to know how you captured this hummer on a black or dark background. It makes the bird really stand out.
Beautiful capture.
Thats a mastershot ,Nette
How pretty! Love the Emerald Green color on this one.
Nice shot!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, canada.
Wow. Impossible shot done with elegance!
Stunning of this fun little creature! Great tip too...will have to look for a monopod.
Perfect photo capture!
Gorgeous shot of the hummer, Brian! Thanks for the tip, have a happy day!
Beautiful Hummingbird...they are such sweet birds~
Gorgeous pic of the hummer. I have been thinking about a monopod...one of these days, I will get around to getting one. Seems like a handy device.
A little jeweled helicopter! Just perfection against the black background.
Thanks for the monopod advice--some kind of "steadier" has been on my list for a long time. Only have a little 6 in tripod. Another equipment question, Brian: I need some better binoculars for bird spotting. Do you prefer mono or bino?
Sheer perfection!
Beautiful photo.
Awesome shot! Hummers are amazing little birds.
Wonderful shot!
The tip about monopods is a good one - they are worth their weight in gold!
Cheers and thanks for linking to WBW

Great capture, Brian! I've tried shooting these busy stinkers on several occasions and it is not easy to get them "just so" with their wings all the way back and looking gorgeous!
the only way i am going to get a picture like this, is if YOU hold the camera!!
awesome brian, you my friend, have the great details!!
Hi Brian... He is a beauty, very nice shooting!!
I posted the hummingbird to, but mine doesn't have much technique to it!
I just shoot from the hip!! ; }

Wow, you stopped him dead in his tracks ... not even a blur on the speedy little wings. This is a beautiful picture, Brian ... can't stop admiring your work.

Just stunning.
Super shot, Brian! Good work on getting the bird to place himself in front of a nice backdrop! :)
You mean like a tobacco stick? :)
Great capture and very good to get the information about taking pictures
oh Brian your going to ring my neck. I
tagged your humming bird to show my son. It never worked but I am sure it will show you the tagger it is me. My son just came back with family from a camp site and he had never seen a humming bird or blue jays. Oh my. So I thought who else would have a humming bird so close up for him to see would be yours.
So I am honest.
Anyhow it did not work.
