You Can Look, But You Can't Touch
This Ring-billed Gull conducted a fly-over to inspect a dead fish just under the ice (which you can see by following the gull's stare).
The gull wasn't the only one searching for a meal. This immature Great Blue Heron flew out onto the ice in the middle of the lake in a vain attempt to get at this dead fish.

Amazing shots, Brian. Poor Freddie! :)
loved every single one of these, but that first one is stellar! the feather patterns of the gull are almost mirrored in the ice ripples. that one mallard drake looks like a hybrid or something. SWEET female cardinal, too.
poor freddie. may he live to old age...
These are just gorgeous! Wow!
WOW! These are superb!!
Love both of the G-b Herons.
Poor Freddie seems to not be bothered by his lack of webbed footing, although being minus one could slow down his swimming abilty and make for a slower getaway when needed.
I like the cardinal, and i like random. Beautiful photos!
Amazing shots!! A treat to see your photos! The Mourning dove reminds me of the Spotted doves that we see here.
Great sequence!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Wonderful images Brian...
Freddie looks quite happy as he is...
Nice to see some of your work with smaller birds Brian. Excellent group of photos. I'm with the crowd on liking the cardinal, that the mockingbird is a great catch too. Your sense of composition is golden. I wonder what Freddy's story is? Do I hear the sound of one hand clapping?!
What a delight your photos are! I really enjoy the fantastic closeups you do - wonder what happened to Freddie? He looks to be managing okay, in spite of his affliction!
