Tiny Standoff

This hummingbird and wasp were engaged in a standoff of sorts over the feeder. There were a couple of wasps hanging around that were quite aggressive. They drove the hummingbirds off at times. The stare down lasted several seconds until the hummingbird decided it was okay to feed without being attacked.

Beautiful image Brian.

I so wish we had hummingbirds here in the UK.

it's hard to imagine just how weeny those hummers are; delightful post and glad it got to the feeder.

Great capture of the midair Hummer! Those wasps are so aggressive, they even chase me away!

Stunning clarity!!!

Just wanted you to know that I added a linky to my newest bird photos today. If you'd care to stop by and leave a link. And perhaps if you know of anyone who loves birding--let them know of the new birding meme I set up for a weekly run---The Bird D'Pot. Stop by if you can. And have a glorious week.

I'd Rather B Birdin'

Great capture of the standoff! Our hummingbirds are making themselves scarce this summer. They're around, but not often.

What a phenomenal shot! The focus on the hummingbird is perfect and the blur of the wings is so cool. You caught him at just the right moment.

What a treat to capture this hummingbird in midair. I've seen a few around here but they fly off so quickly I never have a chance to photograph them.

What a great shot, Brian- I have wasps hanging out on my feeder too, but the hummers are too busy buzzing each other away to notice.

I know how hard it is to get a shot like this, it's super hard because they move so fast. Well done Brian!

I may have said this before - but I find it hard to believe that you get humming birds around the feeders in your yard!

With spiders the size of the one in my post I am always glad to see then before they see me!!

The difference between your photography and mine is about 2 yrs. Perhaps, just perhaps I will up to your quality by then. :D

Incredible shot! Brian, I am so jealous of your photos! I have at least six to eight bees feeding from my hummingbird feeders at most times and the poor hummingbirds try so hard to get a drink! They have to be so careful because, yes, they can be stung! I sometimes see them give up and fly away. At other times, they manage to find a spot amid the bees to drink. I wish I could capture this drama myself with my camera, but neither the camera nor the photographer are that good!

Gorgeous shot Brian! I'd love to have the smarts & skills to capture a flighty bird with such clarity. Beautiful colours on this one!
