What a great shot! I am still waiting to see one in the wild. Dan photographed a pair at his sister's house in MO summer before this one, but they were in a tree and pretty hard to see. I never got to see them at all! This is a wonderful capture!
love that you caught him in step mode, but the way he slices right down the middle of dark and light makes this shot fascinating. perfection in timing and skill.
Wow Brian, you get some of the most detailed and spectacular bird shots I've ever seen! This one is no exception... Thanks for sharing on Weekly Top Shot #48!
You even got him in mid-step. I think it's striking how the right side of the photo is dark and the left side is light, with the bird's shadow casting that narrow strip of darkness. Beautifully done!
That's a new one for me. Can't say I've seen one. With that foot in mid air, it looks like its sneakin up on something. Did you get a picture of my sweet BIG Red at the football game?
Thanks for linking up at the Bird D'Pot this weekend. I'm a little behind in paying my visits as I had a very busy weekend and wasn't online much!!! Your sharing is always much appreciated!!

Thats a really nice image - the mix of light and shade must have been a bit of a challenge.
Thanks for the multiple comments - busy week over, now to empty the inbox!

Great shot, love the header shot.
Great capture Brian! Good thing the Greenie stepped out of the shadow; great lighting! Nice to see one so out in the open!

Great close up!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Oh love this Brian, you got so close!
Beautiful capture of the heron!
Was he practicing dance steps to Me and My Shadow? :)
He looks to be up on a walkway? Those little guys are really cute and love the yellow legs.
As if its neck isn't long enough. Great shot! http://looseleafnotes.com
Super shot! LOVE his expression :)
Wow! That is absolutely amazing!
What a fantastic shadow shot for the day, Brian! Great looking bird and I love the close up! Have a great week!
Such great detail, love the clean, clear, crisp shot and his (her?) shadow.
Green Herons are just so photogenic...this is a beautiful shot...especially with the colorful eyes.
I like the different lines in this photo - the horizontal boards and the slanted lines in the bird. Great shot!
Great shot. I love how the shadow lines right up along the bird, so cool.
Great macro shot.
Bold Shadow, come and see it. Your comment will be greatly appreciated!

I love photos of birds. Great shot. He's beautiful.
Oh this must be the Green Heron that you've posted photos of before. I love the Green legs.
Wonderful shot, the shadow is fabulous.
He's a cool dude!
Wonderful, defined drama of stillness in the bird's body language and shadow!
