Or at least it looked promising. This Ring-billed Gull found a dead fish along the rocky shoreline and decided to give it a go. He would pick it up then drop it, pick it up then drop it, and this happened several times. The gull apparently determined the fish was too far past its expiration date and left it in search of fresher morsels. I'm afraid there's not much good that can be said about a meal that even a seagull passes up. Cue the raccoons.

guess it was worth a try, you never know your luck. Better fishing further along, hopefully. Great captures Brian

Great shots and I guess birds can be choosy too.
What a great photo opp! Too bad the fish wasn't edible. Hope there is some animal out there that finds it suitable. Would hate to see it go to waste. Love the flight shot. :)

My...what a big fish for such a little bird. Nice catch.
Great shots, Brian! It certainly wasn't worth anything if the gull gave up that fish!

Wonderful series!
Love the wildlife stories you tell with your camera, Brian.
Good to see that even the feathered ones like a fresh healthy meal! Fantastic series of photos!
Nice post - I managed to get shots of all 3 of our resident gulls this week - so I'll post them soon.
If a gull passes up a meal it must be pretty rank!

PS: sorry for slow reply - I been out of internet range in Tasmania!
A very nice series! Yep, when the gulls pass it up, it's time for the other scavengers to move in.
