Showin' Off

1/2000 sec. f/8 ISO 400

Ruby-throated Hummingbird

Today's Tip:
Shoot for a week, or just an entire day, with the same lens (fixed focal length). If you don't have a fixed lens, set a zoom lens to the focal length of your choice and then tape the zoom ring in place so you aren't tempted to change it. Using the same focal length forces us to see and do things differently and can improve our photography.

Hummers are so colorful- great shot & that's a great tip. I find that I have become addicted to the zoom lens maxxed out and I need to stop that.

simply stunning; such a sweet little bird and your photograph is as if it's right here in front of me - well it is of course.

One truly super shot, colours matching too!! Do you ever do tutorials? We all benefit so much from your helpful tips. Cheers from Jean.

The bird or you with that great shot?

My goodness! Such wonderful detail and is this not a coup for you to even spot this one? I've only seen two hummers this season and they were not this brilliant and showy.

That is a wonderful shot! Its so sharp.

I like the idea of shooting for a week with one (fixed) lens - on the other hand I'd like to be able to go outside and shoot with any lens!!

Cheers and thanks for linking to WBW

Magnificent display of colour on this gorgeous little winged character. The beak seems so long and prominent from this perspective.

Great shot of the hummingbird-- in living color. Your B/W cloud photo is spectacular!

Love the Hummers. We have had bunches of them around this year. Our Rufous look like your Ruby-throats. I like it when they actually perch on the feeder. MB

You do such an amazing job of capturing birds with wings expanded...I'm always checking your settings for tips...my bird photos...the few that I take...are much better for it!!!

Love the bright red feeder and the bright red orange of the hummers neck...wonderful balance of color and form!!!

Ooops! Forgot to mention that I like your tip today! I love playing with my 105mm macro...and have to get used to me moving instead of the lens...I'm toying with getting either a 50mm or 85mm prime lens at some point!
