I really like the old wagons in this barn. The John Deere spreader on the far right is my favorite.
What's better than an old black barn with some sheep inside?
How about an old black barn with some sheep AND a mule?
Or better yet, an old black barn with sheep and TWO mules.
The ol' run-in sheds.
Technically, these really aren't barns, but they're pretending to be so I pretended to include them. Just pretend you see them. For all I know, the last one is a glorified outhouse with a view.

I love these black barns. And, as instructed, I pretended to see the pretend barns...I didn't have to pretend to like them though...they were very interesting! I was thinking playhouse for the last one...rather than necessary house. I don't remember ever seeing one with a window! Very nice collection of barns today - you made me smile first thing this morning!
I love the color -- if I recall, you said in a previous post that these would be a tobacco barn? Are all tobacco barns painted black? Great shots.
Wonderful post! Kentucky is farm heaven, isn't it. Thanks for sharing these!
I'm impressed that so many old wagons are still inside the barn!
I'm really starting to prefer black barns instead of red. I like the mules!
Brian, what a great series of the black barns and the pretend barns. I'm pretending the last one is my playhouse. I'd love it as my potting shed.
Since barns are gradually becoming a thing of the past, I'm so glad you are capturing them in photo. These are great!
Love those vintage wagons!
i like the hay bales busting out of the loft window. and the 2nd to last shot is my favorite - a good 'fence in front of it' scene.
those old wagons in the first barn look like equally great subject matter
Love 'em! Those wagons are indeed charming...and I like the mules, too :) Very sweet. I love how the black of the barns contrasts with the bright green. Great find!
Charming photos! I just love the look of the black barn ensemble! I was starting to wonder what else was going to emerge from that sheep/donkey barn:)
Awesome wagons! My mom sure would love to have any one of those displayed at the farm for everyone's viewing pleasure! lOl - Love the John Deere, too...
I'm wondering if that's a old bed frame in the door there & what it's used for... I think it's interesting to repurpose old furniture & things.
You're crackin me up w/ the pretending & the outhouse business, too funny =)
Thanks a million for joining, much appreciated! =)
What a fabulous complex of structures on this working farm. All the buildings appear to be in good condition with some very happy animals round and about. Love the board and batten of the main barn. It is charming. This was quite the find. Wish I had been the one to drive up upon it. Great shots. genie
love the 1st shot of all the wagons. great views. (:
I enjoyed the tour of barns; I would really like to know what the Glorified Outhouse really is though.
You must be in an area when all the barns are kept in pristine condition. :)
It amazes me that your barn posts always have so much detail. I'm loving them!
The shot of all those wagons would certainly look good on my wall. ;)
That's a terrific find and shot beautifully!
You have a great sense of humor and it goes well with your choice of pictures. It is always a pleasure to visit your blog. Thanks for another enjoyable few moments.

What a find! I'm glad you pretended to include those pretend barns!
Hey BJK, that's a great set of shots, and I really can't imagine anything better than a black barn with sheep and 2 mules. The wagons are a close second, though.
Oh wow! I love them all. I don't know how to choose between the wagons and the sheep and mules. :)
These are all beautiful shots! And while we're pretending, I'll just pretend that this is MY farm!
Nice sheds, lol.
My barn folder is empty this week, must get out more! However, you have found a ton of fun in these barns. Love the mules!
hey b, these are amazing. not only the barns, but the way you photographed them. lot's of black, are they all matching because they are on the same property or is black a popular barn color??
i went back and re-read, thinking maybe i missed it. anywho, i like the first picture, with the wagons, BEST!!
it was tough to get past those herons to get here. i scrolled very slowly!!
You probably should have stuck around that first one a bit longer...who knows what else was in there! :) Great shots- I like that pole barn/horse corral and the grey/blue/black colors.
Nice series...I like that everything is painted the same color (black) and looks well cared for! Love the last shot!
I love the old wagons, and I do like the two mules. They add charm to the barn--not that it really needed any help!
I was still mentally "ooohing" at the wagons when I scrolled to the two mules. Adorable or classic? I'd have to go with adorable.
I like the light gray roof on the darker gray barn in the first pic. The black barn is cool also. I was born in an area of Kentucky where black tobacco barns were the norm. Most of the ones around southeastern Ohio are white or red.
Great post!:>)
I pretended to see the mules pretending they were not annoying the sheep in the pretend barn.
The sheep and mules add even more charm to the already charming barns. The first barn is a beauty though. Great captures... one and all!
Really wonderful barns and barn animals! It makes you long to be on a piece of land like that, enjoying the time-honored work of farming the land, and tending the animals. Really pretty photos of them! And, as far as the smaller buildings are concerned, they are "dependencies" and are just as qualified, I would think, for Barn Charm, since they all go together!
Thanks for your comments on my blog posts! Hope you are having a great week!
Good Morning Brian! Your photo series on the second barn puts the charm in charming! Love the black barn with the animals that just keep popping up :) I think the wagons in the top barn are an extra added bonus. Great Barn Charm post! It's so green!!!!
haha glorified outhouse with a view! fun post, i enjoyed it!
I LOVE old farm equipment! I agree that John Deere is pretty awesome!
Wow! Love these black barns/outbuildings, but my favorite is the top with old wagons.
What an interesting post!!
I enjoyed seeing all of these black barn buildings! The 1st ones with the sheep and mules are my favorites!!
