Two Firsts

This little fella had the distinction of being the first and only Green Heron I've photographed to date. In fact, it was the first one I had ever seen. One bird, two firsts. They are widespread in Kentucky, but rather elusive. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time and paying attention, albeit I was very surprised. The heron stuck around for no more than five minutes and then disappeared.

My friend keeps telling me there are Green Herons by the channel near our house, but, like you, I have never seen them, let alone been able to take a picture. This was your lucky day and what a perfect shot (of course I would expect no less from you Brian, as all of your shots seem perfect). I am happy for you it gives me hope that I will someday see the Green Heron here. Thanks ...

Never hanging around in one place for long, either... Call him/her 'The Wanderer' like that ol Dion, then Eddie Rabbit, song... LoL! =)

beautiful! you got a great up-close shot! i see them every day here - sometimes several of them at once - but they're usually across the pond and fly back and forth to keep some distance between them and me. :)

Hi Brian, that's a great image! I saw one of these at the lake this morning while swimming my dog, but couldn't get close enough for a good shot, so I'm happy to see all the wonderful detail in yours.

I've only spotted the green heron twice and both times they were so far out that I couldn't get a clear shot! You really were fortunate to get such a great image. Well, your skills helped too, I know. It's like he was posing just for you.
