Unlucky Horseshoe?

If you have, have had, or know anything about horses, you know it's not uncommon for a horse to throw a shoe. I came across this horseshoe one day that had obviously been lost by its owner.

Then, almost within spitting distance, I noticed this horseshoe hanging in a Honey Locust tree. Now, I know horses throw their shoes, but to throw one into a tree is quite a remarkable feat. :-) If you're not familiar with horseshoe superstition, they're never hung upside down. It's believed hanging a horseshoe upside down causes all the luck to run out.

Just a few yards away from the two horseshoes, I found this. It makes me wonder if this was the unlucky owner of said shoes. Perhaps there's something to the superstition, after all.

Yikes..no wonder I saw a snake trying to squeeze between some rocks by the shed yesterday, my horseshoe is hanging upside down on the shed! Better fix that real quick!

Fine and interesting series on the horseshoe. I don't have any horseshoes around to check, but I'll remember the correct way to hang them.

Whoa! That is one unlucky horse! Great find. Well, that tree the horseshoe is hanging in looks pretty dreadful.

Great finds. Hanging a horseshoe in a tree the other way up just isn't that easy.

I haven't heard of that superstition either. Is that the skull of a dead horse? Great photos of the horse shoes, especially in the tree.
