Blue Ridge Mountains Scenery II

These photos were taken along the Blue Ridge Parkway near the Linn Cove Viaduct. The viaduct was built on the side of a mountain and there are some very nice views through this area of the parkway. It's difficult to get a perfectly clear day because of the haze that frequently hangs over the mountains. The resulting blueish color is how the Blue Ridge Mountains got their name.

Brilliant scenery, though, a bit of shame about the road.

A beautiful drive and pleasant views. It must be great to drive on the roadway which extends over the edge.

The beauty of the Linn-Cove Viaduct is that it was done so as to disturb as little of the mountain as possible. I have traveled it several times and always take time to stop and enjoy the view! Your photos do a wonderful job of presenting this amazing engineering feat!

We have the same blue-hue in the 'Blue Mountains' said to be vapours from the eucalypt forest. Interesting countryside; lovely photographs Brian.

WOW! Thats a remarkable section of road! And while I like the wild to be wild, if you have to put a road through it, at least you can do it with style!

Nice pictures.

Beautiful shots of the mountains. Good info on why they are called Blue Ridge Mountains. Makes sense. I enjoy seeing the outcroppings.

Beautiful pictures Brian! That first one really shows the amount of work it took to build the road without blasting away the mountainside!

WHOA! Yep Yep, from what I understand Cades Cove is somewhere near the Blue Ridge Parkway, but I don't know exactly where! When the page & 1st pic loaded, I recognized it immediately! Such beautiful country out there! Love the SUPER-SIZED PICS, too! WoW! =)

We were privileged to be able to travel the Blue Ridge a couple of summers ago -- your photos are remarkable -- it is hard to get photos that do it justice, but you did.

that scenery outranks that where i live just a little. Actually quite alot, you are really lucky to have such stunning scenery on your doorstep.

Thanks for your kind words about my bleeding heart and the texture. Much to my frustration, it probably took me an hour to get it to the point where I was willing to post. It is pretty much trail and error. Your pictures from the Blue Ridge are beautiful. We have not been to this area, but it would certainly be worth the trip. That roadway is one impressive structure. How in the world did they ever build the thing? Loved seeing the mountains from a different perspective and the gorgeous skies. genie

I haven't been on the parkway in a few years. I think it's time for a visit. :)
