Beauty And The Beasts

This Monarch, the bees, and wasps were all competing for the same flowers. At times, some ended up on the same flower. The butterfly held its own.

The shot showing the underside of the butterfly is incredible Brian, it looks like a handglider waiting to leap. Great stuff.

Heard from a bee man yesterday that the queen in a yellow jacket colony dies in the fall, and the yellow jackets are free to seek out sweets for themselves until the new queen establishes order once more. That may be why we see more yellow jackets in the late summer and fall. Great shots.

The beasts are as gorgeous as the beauties. We haven't seen monarchs at all this summer, but now they are plentiful around our butterfly bushes.

You are brave getting so close to those wasps and bees -- oh wait, you have a zoom lens. :) Beautiful late summer color.
