My First Horned

1/320 sec. f/9 ISO 1600

Horned Grebe

I recently saw and photographed my first Horned Grebe. I'm not a bird list fanatic, but it's always exciting to photograph a new one.

I've been seeing the pied-billed grebe a lot lately, but haven't had the pleasure of seeing the horned. What a sensational set, Brian! He's a beauty.

Apart from the head, it is very like a Little Grebe. I really enjoy all your pictures. From Findlay

What a lovely find, Brian!
I do keep a list as I note where they are photographed and add locations if I manage to find them in a new place. Lifers are always a nice feeling. :)

I love it when you photograph a new bird because you capture what the bird looks like and what they are all about.
I think your bird photos should be the model in all the bird books. You show us what they really look like.

A small group of Horned Grebes landed on our lake a few years ago. I took a picture but they were too far away to get a really good shot (like yours), but I was still thrilled that I had even seen them. I haven't seen one since until today. So cool, Brian ... really love your photography.
