A First: Northern Rough-winged Swallow

1/125 sec. f/7.1 ISO 2000

This was my first time seeing and photographing these guys. Several of them were hunting bugs along the lake shore.

Great captures, Brian! Their soft coloring just helps them blend right in!

Grey on grey, superb photos. Those feathers stand out against the pebbles so well. Cheers, Jean

Another lifer for you, Yay! Nice of that swallow to sit still for his very beautiful portrait! ... they're usually so flittery. I have only ever gotten one (bad) picture of the many that we have here on the Lake (violet green swallows, I think).

They are really lovely, and such great insect control!

Very cool! They look like tree swallows except for the color. This is a new one for me, too!
