Warm Weather Wings

Our weather was very nice yesterday with the temperature hitting the mid-60's. I took advantage of it to shoot a project, but during the course of shooting those photos, I came across a variety of birds. The robins were everywhere and I also saw a lot of cardinals. The hawk in the last photo was the one bird I really wanted to photograph, but I couldn't begin to get close enough for decent shots. I took that photo at 500mm and it was as close as I got. The hawk was gone before I could close the distance.

Robin

Grackle

Cardinal (male)

Red-winged Blackbird (male)

House Sparrows

Robin

Starling

Unknown hawk

each fantastic and no wonder the birds are enjoying the approach to spring now. I love the robins, but those cardinals are something really spectacular too.

I think Spring is just around the corner!
I am sitting here listening to all the Robins and Mockingbirds in the front yard, while the Cardinals and who knows what else take over the side yard...yep, its gonna be a great day! ♥

Love the Red-winged Blackbird!

I'm seeing many of the same birds here too, Brian. I agree that spring is definitely on it's way. :)

the house sparrows are too cute, and the starling line-up is neat. but the cardinal wins for gorgeousness. :)

Love the photos, especially the cardinal. We haven't had the red wings return yet, but in the next couple of weeks they should be back.

Great shots Brian. I especially like the Grackle. Being a Bluebird monitor I would make one request. I don't know if the birdhouse is yours or someone you know, but I would plead with you not to let House Sparrows breed in any birdhouse. House Sparrows are an invasive species that have contributed to declines in several native cavity nesting birds by occupying birdhouses and natural cavities. They will literally kill Bluebirds and build their nests on top of the dead bodies. Please, if you know of anyone that has House Sparrows nesting in their birdhouses, pass on this information to them. We need fewer invasive species in North America to bring back our natives.

If you or your readers have any questions about this, please feel free to contact me. You can read my post on this here.

Great collection of birds and photos. I really like the line up of the starlings in the tree. Wow, did I just say I liked Starlings. Your photo is wonderful. Love the Cardinal too! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the info, Larry! That particular bird house was in the green space of an industrial park. I have no idea who owns it. I'm no fan of House Sparrows and wouldn't let them nest in my bird houses if I had any out.

These are great captures. I love the starlings lined up on the dead branch. I heard the trill of a Red-winged Blackbird right outside my window this morning - a sure sign of spring.

Great, great, great images and I especially love the male Cardinal...wow what an image is sweet perfection! That would be a Red-tailed Hawk. Very nice share~

Nice line up there Brian. I would say 99.9 of my hawk photos are taken from a car window. There's just no way a Red tail will let you walk up on him unless maybe it's a very youg bird.
Interesting that your using a 500mm lens. It must be the secret of your B.Heron classics. I've been tossing around the idea of upping the ante from my 400mm to a 500. I wonder though, will the pay off be worth the investment. I'll rent one I suppose.
Take care brother!
