Fabulous lighting and clarity. Are his/her brows are furrowed in that last shot as compared to the first? Seriously good photography going on here.

Such a beauty and so many great poses. They certainly are patient hunters. Really amazing photography. :)

So did he get what he was headed for? I love the first shot with his feathers in the wind....kind of a "punk do".

i was hoping those feathers (hairs) would stay curled all the way through, but his speedy take-off straightened them out. :) love the clarity of focus on his eye!

huge smile! :D

Perfection! That dude is definitely on my photog bucket list. Herons are literally in our back yard here (well, behind our barn on the pond). But they're so paranoid, and I'm slow! lol. Great shots.. thanks for sharing! -Tammy

Gosh, such a character! Truly worthy of some Disney creature copy-cat...Harry the Heron maybe?
great captures!!

Looks like a grumpy old man! Fascinating that you can shoot fast enough to capture all these different postures, Brian. And, of course, that lift off was such a dramatic finish.

Very nice sequence - the 'soft tones' on the Great Crested Grebe are causes by very poor light! Although maybe it was not so poor after all.

Cheers and thanks for linking to WBW
