Linville Falls is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains off the Blue Ridge Parkway and marks the start of the Linville Gorge. There are several distinct drops taken by the Linville River with the final part of the falls comprised of a 45 foot, high volume plunge. Legend has it that Native Americans used the falls for executions and no one ever survived the last drop.

Mallard Fuzzies
These mallard ducklings were on a lake not from from my home. The way the little ones took turns popping up looked like the duck version of Whack-A-Mole. This was the first and last time I saw them. Fortunately, I took some photos while I had the opportunity.

Blue Ridge Barbed Wire
I came across this old fence while hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Parts of it appear to have been repaired more than once. While it may be old, it is still very much in use.

Turkey Vulture Convention
I saw something the other day I've never seen before...turkey vultures landing in an open field for no apparent reason and in close proximity to people. The vultures didn't do anything after landing other than sit and there was no rotting carcass to feast on. They came in one at a time over the course of about five minutes until there were nine or ten of them on the ground. The comical part about it was each vulture was harangued on the way in by the local grackle thugs. It was akin to watching hang gliders try to harass B-1 bombers. The vultures sat around looking at each other for about fifteen minutes and then suddenly all flew off together.
