Hide And Seek

For only the second time, I recently managed to photograph a Green Heron. I saw him fly from the edge of the lake into a tree in the middle of a small cove. Each time I moved to try to get a clear photo, the heron would move and try to hide behind a branch. Just my luck I found a heron with a sense of humor. We played the hide and seek game for a few minutes until I decided it was as good as it was going to get.

I would say that is pretty good, Brian...I should be so lucky to get something this clear! I have never seen one in the wild...that first shot is gorgeous! There is another bird linkup - have you checked it out? You have some fabulous shots of birds, and I am sure Anni would love to have you participate! Hers is at http://id-rather-b-birdin.blogspot.com, called The Bird DPot. I usually post there also, so you can find the link on my blog for tomorrow as well.

Tricky little devil it sounds like. I'm going to have to go learn more about these guys since we don't have them. Looks so small compared to our great blue's.

Those green herons get spooked very easily. I think you did great. His shyness in the last two are so cute. He couldn't have picked a better tree to hide in. Loving all the green.

Your pictures are clear and the branch doesn't really hide his face or his personality. Your pictures are always exceptional. I too found my first Green Heron and posted him ... it was a thrill at a distance. You must have wonderful equipment along with your special eye to capture such shots. Well done ...

Oh PS... I got my 'test' barn book in the mail over the weekend & now I have to work out the kinks...
The calendars turned out really nice, altho, I spelled my sister's middle name wrong on her bday on the ones I made for my family calendars! LoL! A few kinks to work out on both, but I'll have others for my blog friends w/ no family bdays! LoL!

Spectacular! Really a good capture.

Such clarity and vivid color!

I have a new camera and have yet to take anything close to being this clear. Will study more and practice.

Photography is fun.

I enjoyed looking at your green heron pictures. His head and neck look a tiny bit like a bittern. from Findlay

Your images are just stunning Brian and makes me feel like my shares need some help...
We are always at the mercy of the lighting and mine were in bright sunlight. These images, the brilliance of the Heron, just marvelous.
You are so good!!!

Well your "hide-n-seek" paid off as these are just great. I really like the first shot and then that last shot is really fun. It's like the bird is just saying, "You can't catch me!".

Honestly Brian "managed to" is really not the right term-- these are fantastic pictures, really catching the heron's personality and exactly how one looks. ("Managed to" is the phase I use when I get a picture with my point-and-shoot, just because I'm in the right place at the right time). Yours are professional quality. Just lovely. (And one of my fav. birds!)

Never seen or heard of a green heron. Thanks for educating me.

Wonderful shots by the way.

I really like this shot - I'm beginning to think that the images where the birds do not always look like a guide book image are my favourite!

Splendid combination of colours.
